An Overview of the GBC C-75 Comb Binding Machine

If you are looking for an inexpensive comb binding machine for your office or home office you might be considering the GBC C75. With a price under one hundred dollars and a great set of features, this system is definitely worth considering. This machine is made by General Binding Corporation (an Acco Brands company) who is one of the leading manufacturers of binding equipment in the world. It has a good brand name. But what about the features, lets take a look…

The C-75 is a combination comb binding system. This means that it will not only punch holes in your documents but that it will also spread your binding spines open so that you can insert your pages onto the spines. This system is made of both metal (handle, comb opener, punching mechanism, teeth) and plastic (housing and base). The construction is pretty solid and will undoubtedly hold up under moderate use. However, if it’s used more often, there’s a possibility that the comb opener’s rather thin teeth could become bent. Overall though, the C75 is solidly constructed (especially for the price) and it comes with a one-year warranty.

One C75′s bonuses is that it includes features that aren’t often seen on comb binding machines. One of these features are the machine’s suction-cup feet, which ensure the machine will stay in one place during the binding process. This is a very helpful feature because the C75 is pretty lightweight. The machine also has a well-designed handle that makes it easy to use by both right- and left-handed people, especially when compared to a machine with a traditional slot machine handle design. Also, the handle has a smooth-coated grip bar with a locking mechanism that allows you to lock the handle in the “down” position. This prevents the handle from springing back up, making it easy to both store and transport the machine. Finally, the C75 has a wheel-shaped paper margin guide to allow you to choose between letter and A4 size paper, as well as oversized covers. Unlike the margin guides on more expensive comb binding machines, this one is very easy to use and set up, giving the C75 an edge over its competition.

The C75 is one of the lowest priced binding machines that GBC makes. As such, it is missing some features that other larger machines might have. For instance, this system is only capable of punching sheets that are either eleven inches (letter size) or eleven and one eighth inch (oversize). It is not designed for punching documents that are A4 (at least the US model is not) and it is not designed for punching half letter sized documents. One of the other things that makes this machine less expensive than other comparable machines is that it can only punch 7 or 8 sheets of paper a time. For light volume users, that shouldn’t be a problem. However, binding thick documents or large numbers of documents may become tedious with this system.

This system is designed for binding documents that contain up to one hundred and twenty five pages with combs that are up to nine-sixteenths in size. Binding larger documents with this machine is possible. However, the comb opener on the top of the machine may not be strong enough or large enough to open larger combs. This machine really isn’t designed for use with really small sized combs that are three sixteenths in size. The holes that it punches are too far away from the edge of the page to allow the sheets to turn freely.

This system is a great choice for an office that is looking for a small, non-expensive binding machine for ocassional use. It comes with a decent warranty and is made by a reputable manufacturer. Plus, the price is great. However, this machine does have limitations and is not the ideal choice for high volume users. As long as you understand that, this machine will probably be just fine for your company.
