By far the most common and advanced form of digital television at its best is HDTV. It can display almost anything including standard TV (now digital), progressive-scan DVD, blu-ray and high definition TV signals.
With the introduction of amazing TV technologies like the Plasma, DLP (Digital Light Processor), rear-projection units, LCoS (Liquid Crystal on Silicon), and LCD (liquid crystal displays), the world of television entertainment heard a bang. Television was on the road to innovation that would change how we viewed TVs in the future. Who would have imagined that a television could be hung on the wall!
There?s no surprise that there are advantages and disadvantages ? the price to pay for the promise of a better picture quality. It?s worth it in the long run. For instance, a regular television (CRT or Cathode Ray Tube television) normally has a little over 2 hundred thousand pixels picture resolution, which is fine if you’re okay with less picture detail. In comparison, HDTV?s have a resolution of near 2 million pixels. Big difference heh? That?s why the screen?s images seem so much clearer – the detail in the picture is so much better.
Don?t be alarmed though. Even with the way technology is progressing, even the best HDTV models installed with the most innovative technologies are by no means lacking to the older versions of HDTV. It just depends on what you want out of your television experience. Side note: I heard it through the grapevine that HDTV cruise-lines is adding another super liner to it?s fleet. Yes, as if we can stand it, there?s going to be more expansion in high definition town. Make way for UHDV or Ultra High Definition. No worries, it?s still in prototype stages. Just be on the lookout for it in the near future.
HDTV technologies provide the benefit of a compact structure. Many new versions of TVs are only a few inches thick and weigh a fraction of the size of older versions. Talk about junk in the trunk! The flatter TVs are a favorite among the buyers. They are classy, compact, can be placed anywhere, and prove to be a worthwhile replacement for a standard sized (19 ? 32 inch) up to the larger and big screen television sets. My father in law has one in every room of his house. He makes sure there?s no excuse to miss his favorite television show. That?s another story for another day ? moving on.
So you’re sitting there reading this tugging with yourself about buying a new set. Christmas has come and gone, and you still don?t have that television set you want. I know, just trying to fight the feeling ? you have emotional attachments to junk in the trunk. I also understand that you?re simply here reading this only because you want to gather as much information as possible so when you do decide to buy, you?ll have all the information needed to get the best HDTV available. Am I right? You know I?m right.
Relax dear friend. With Plasmas, LCDs, DLPs and so many choices other choices available and advancing everyday, you can?t go wrong with any with any HDTV technology you choose.

In this outtake from a 1978 television interview, Cassavetes discusses his film Opening Night for a while, and builds into a terrific rant on movies and movie audiences.
